Conor McGregor clears his name of a "dishonorable" act inside the octagon

Conor McGregor Next Fight: The Irishman is returning after UFC 264 legbreak

Conor McGregor's next fight is yet to be announced, but the Irishman has never really lost his relevance on Twitter.

An old clip surfaced on the social media platform today after Conor McGregor posted a video of him taking a TUF class with Stephen Thompson.

One fan pointed out that the left elbow he was demonstrating on 'Wonderboy' was similar to the one he landed on Ivan Buchinger the night he became a two-division Cage Warriors champion.

It started the conversation about whether McGregor was planning on follow-up shots despite Buchinger getting knocked out cold. The fact that the referee was seen pushing the Irishman away further fueled the argument.

McGregor has been accused of many things over the years, but being dishonorable inside the octagon is not a blame he's ready to take.

He quickly took to Twitter to insist that he was never going to actually bring down the strike even though he raised his arm. He added that he believes it is "dishonorable" to hit a clearly knocked-out opponent.

McGregor tweeted:

"I was never going to hit here. Fighters that do this are dishonorable in my opinion. It's so much smoother to recognize the KO and billi walk off."

Conor McGregor next fight: The Irishman gets massive respect from Jon Jones ahead of his return

Despite being two of the biggest stars in the UFC, Conor McGregor and Jon Jones never really had a beef. It is surprising because both athletes are very prone to unprovoked rivalries, both online and offline.

Incidentally, both athletes are also returning to action around the same time. Last month, McGregor finally came out of his hibernation and arrived in Las Vegas to shoot The Ultimate Fighter against Michael Chandler and his team.

Meanwhile, Jones will be making his heavyweight debut this coming Saturday against Ciryl Gane.

Talking about the Irishman's contribution to the sport at UFC 285 media day, Jones spoke highly of McGregor and showered him with praise:

"There's only one Conor McGregor. I love Conor. I love what he represents. He's big. He has a gigantic brand. In some sense, it's just as big as our sport... I never thought, in my time, I'd see an MMA fighter with a [Lamborghini] yacht, but he's done it. I'm so proud of him. It opens doors for all of us. It lets young fighters know that it's possible. There's great business [and] life changing opportunities outside of the sport. I'm so grateful for [him] being that example for all of us."

Despite having such high opinions about Conor McGregor, Jones left him out of his 'top five all-time great MMA fighters' list. 'Bones' included himself, Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Jose Aldo on the list.
