Conor McGregor is set to end his three-year hiatus from the octagon and make his highly-anticipated return when he faces Michael Chandler in the main event of UFC 303 next month. The bout will take place at welterweight and 'The Notorious' recently revealed that the 170-pound title is one of two belts that he would be excited about pursuing.
Speaking on Duelbits, the former double champ stated:
"Look at the welterweight picture, which is the next belt, my next weight. The welterweight picture. Leon Edwards, Nate Diaz almost knocked him out. Had him out on his feet. If that fight was going on, Leon is unconscious. So, also, [Donald] Cerrone went the distance with him. So, I'm looking at all these belts. The lightweight world title although I've held that. How excited would I be to cut that weight again after winning it already? I've already the belt."

"I'd be excited about the 'Bad Motherf**ker' title and I'd be excited about the welterweight title, but we'll see what happens. I take things as they come. There should be a McGregor belt or some sort of money belt or something. I don't know. UFC needs to come up with one for me because all of these things were created off of the back of me."

If McGregor can capture the welterweight title, he will become the first three-division champion in promotional history. He could receive the opportunity to pursue a third belt, provided he gets past Chandler at UFC 303.
Leon Edwards open to facing Conor McGregor next
Leon Edwards will look to defend his welterweight title for the third time when he faces Belal Muhammad at UFC 304 in July. 'Rocky' recently revealed that he would be open to facing Conor McGregor next, provided that both win their upcoming bouts.
The welterweight champion was asked about the possibility during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, responding:
"100%, why not? Let's give him an opportunity to become a three-division world champion. Give me an opportunity to take out a guy like Conor McGregor. New York. That would be perfect... He's got to take out Michael. I'll take out 'No One Remembers His Name' and we'll go from there. We'll go New York, [Madison Square Garden]... That's the fight I feel."

Edwards noted that there haven't been any conversations about him facing McGregor behind the scenes. He noted that both fighters must take care of business before he begins to entertain the bout. While there will be complaints of the former double champion wanting to skip the line, his stardom will likely provide him with the opportunity to fight for the belt next.
