Conor McGregor’s highly anticipated boxing match against Logan Paul could be jeopardized by his existing UFC contract, according to veteran MMA referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy. While McGregor and Paul are reportedly set to earn $250 million each for the bout, McCarthy warns that UFC executives may block the fight, leading to a potential legal battle.

The main hurdle for the match lies in McGregor’s contractual obligations with the UFC. McCarthy explained that McGregor would need UFC approval to fight Paul, and if the promotion disagrees, McGregor could face a lawsuit:

“The real question is his contract with the UFC… The only way for him to be able to get that fight is they’ve got to allow it. They can sue him… They have a contract, right? He signed that contract… They will sue him. He will lose, okay? Now, will he pay? Can they get the money from him? I can’t say that… Does he want to go out in that fashion? That doesn’t make sense.”

Daniel Cormier doubts Conor McGregor’s potential boxing match with Logan Paul

UFC commentator Daniel Cormier has expressed skepticism about rumors of Conor McGregor boxing Logan Paul, suggesting the Irish superstar’s next move should be inside the octagon.

Speaking to MMA Junkie, Cormier acknowledged McGregor’s massive influence but voiced doubts about the former double champion’s recent promises:

“We talk about impact. That right there tells you the impact of Conor McGregor. Conor McGregor has told us a lot of things over the last three years. None of them have come to fruition. I’m gonna have to see it to believe it.”

Cormier emphasized the importance of McGregor returning to MMA, particularly given his recent controversies, including being found liable in a civil sexual assault case:

“I think he’s gonna fight in the octagon. I think he has to, though... For Conor McGregor to – he’s got to rinse some of the stench off of him from everything that’s happened outside of the octagon. Where he made his home is inside that cage, and I think at some point he’s gonna have to get back there.”
