Mackenzie Dern faced Amanda Ribas in a highly anticipated women’s strawweight showdown at UFC Vegas 101.
The first round saw both fighters exchanging strikes, with Ribas landing a spinning back kick and Dern opting for leg kicks. Dern secured a takedown midway through the round, but Ribas did a good job of stifling her ground game.
In the second round, Dern aimed for an early takedown but was reversed by Ribas, who then opened a cut on Dern with an elbow. Despite this, Dern stayed active from her guard, almost locking in an omoplata submission during a scramble.
The following round started with a flurry of strikes, with Ribas landing a head kick and a solid body strike. Dern, however, managed to close the distance and initiated a clinch, eventually being taken down by Ribas. Dern showcased her grappling proficiency and attempted a submission before transitioning to mount.

From there, she started landing heavy strikes and found an opening to secure an armbar with just five seconds remaining. With that, Dern avenged her October 2019 loss to Ribas with an emphatic submission win.
