Oleksandr Usyk etched his name in boxing history, becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion in over two decades after a grueling split-decision victory over Tyson Fury.

Despite facing a significant size disadvantage, Usyk nearly secured a knockout in a thrilling ninth round. A barrage of punches, culminating in a thunderous right hand, sent Fury reeling. Usyk pounced with another flurry, forcing referee intervention, but Fury clung on to survive the round.

Though Fury returned for the final three rounds, that pivotal moment appeared to sway the judges. Scores went 115-112 and 114-113 for Usyk, with the third judge favoring Fury by a narrow margin (114-113).

Fury, while disappointed with the decision, remained respectful. Following the fight he said:

"I believe I won the fight, but I'm not going to sit here and cry and make excuses. I believe he won a few of the rounds, but I won the majority of them. What can you do? We both put on a good fight, the best we could do. ... But make no mistake, I won that fight ... and I'll be back. We've got a rematch clause."

The two-fight deal includes a planned rematch in October, giving Fury a chance to even the score and potentially set up a mega-fight with Anthony Joshua in early 2025.
