Conor McGregor has recently been having less than fair fortunes on the betting table. However, the Irishman sees these missteps as necessary risks to win big.

Earlier this week, 'The Notorious' had wagered a combined $500,000 on Max Holloway and Robert Whittaker to win their respective UFC 308 bouts via KOs, with a potential to win $17 million. Unfortunately for McGregor, his predictions failed to come true.

In the main event of the pay-per-view featherweight champion Ilia Topuria knocked out 'Blessed' in the third round of the fight. Similarly, Whittaker also faced a crushing loss, getting submitted in the opening round by the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev.

Losing half a million of the betting tables, however, hasn't compromised the gambling spirit in McGregor. Explaining his rationale for making the high-stakes wager, the former UFC two-division champion wrote:

"To think that bet would have would have returned me $17 million + is outstanding. If you look at the odds from a point of view like this, at $500k to return $17 million off of just two fight predictions, well doable, you have 32 times to hit the bet and still be happy! 32 shots at the wheel for that payout. Food for thought, my gambling aficionados."

Earlier this month, 'The Notorious' had a similar gambling misfortune. He had placed a $500,000 bet on Renan Ferreira to knock out Francis Ngannou at the PFL Super Fights: Battle of The Giants.

This however turned out costly for the Dubliner as 'The Predator' eased through his MMA return, knocking the Brazilian out cold in the first round.

Despite his recent missteps in sports gambling, McGregor has historically been extremely successful at the betting tables. Earlier this year he had won $1.1 million betting on Spain to win the Euro finals. According to the UFC megastar he has amassed $7.7 million via successful bets this year.
