Conor McGregor lashes out at 'garbage organization' USADA for coming after him 'as if he's lying' despite 70 clean tests

Conor McGregor's return to the octagon will come against Michael Chandler later this year. The former double champ, who has been out of the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) testing pool, recently hinted that he may not have to spend the mandatory six months in the pool before returning.

'The Notorious' recently fired back at USADA after they released a statement claiming that may not be the case.

In a statement released by USADA, the agency stated, in part:

"While we meet with all athletes who enter or re-enter the testing pool, we do not currently have a meeting set with Conor and, as of today, we have not received notice of his coming out of retirement to compete."

The statement continued, saying:

"In addition to two negative tests, an athlete must make themself available for testing for six months before returning to competition. This is a fair way to ensure an athlete does not use the retirement status to gain an unfair advantage... Conor should be in the testing pool for the full six-month period."

Conor McGregor took to Twitter upon catching wind of their remarks, claiming that the organization is attempting to scapegoat him in a series of tweets:

"Usada is going in the bin."

"This is my issue. I’ve not lied once. Nor have I tested positive. Ever. I have over 70 clean tests under this program, yet they are consistently coming out after I speak in a manner that makes it seem I am lying. It’s ridiculous. F*** used. You are in The Bin."

"Over 70 clean tests. Never violated once. I will not be scapegoated by this garbage organization. You are not the be all end all in this equation usada."

USADA did note that the UFC can make an exception if they deem that the strict application of the rule is unfair to the fighter. It is unclear if the promotion will make such an exception to ensure their biggest star gets back to the octagon as quickly as possible.

Conor McGregor is set to face Michael Chandler at some point later this year after the pair coach opposing sides on season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter. 'The Notorious', who is not in the USADA testing pool, recently shared that he may not have to wait six months to compete, stating:

"I'm not rushing nothing. There's hurdles and what not, but we're in contact, we're in constant communication, and there's an interview scheduled and a meeting happens and then it will be official, but the six month thing - what they had said was it's two clean tests and off I go, so that's why I assume it won't be too long."

McGregor has not been tested since the third quarter of 2021, which coincided with his leg break suffered at UFC 264. The former double champ removed himself from the testing pool altogether, fueling speculation that he had been using steroids to recover from the injury.
