Conor McGregor has seemingly given his unfiltered assessment of the purported dichotomy between Donald Trump's presidential election victories in 2016 and 2024. McGregor notably indicated that the majority of the American public has rallied behind Trump heading into his second stint as president.

A former UFC two-division champion, McGregor has long been beheld as one of the world's most influential sportspersons. As for America's Trump, he was primarily viewed as a celebrity and entrepreneur for many years. Trump eventually tried his hand at politics as well and won the 2016 U.S. presidential elections.

The Republican Party's Trump served as the U.S. President from Jan. 2017 to Jan. 2021. He lost the 2020 elections to the Democratic Party's Joe Biden, who served as the president from 2021 onwards. Well, the 78-year-old Trump won the 2024 presidential elections and is set for his official inauguration for his second term as president on Jan. 20, 2025 (local time in the U.S.).

Conor McGregor was one of the notable public personalities invited to Donald Trump's victory rally and inauguration celebrations in Washington, D.C., U.S.A. During a media scrum amid Trump's inauguration festivities, McGregor seemed to suggest that Trump's first reign as president was commendable, which is why he's enjoying considerably greater support heading into his second reign:

"Amazing to be here. I'm very excited; very optimistic about the future. And it's a good time here in the United States. I was here the last time Donald Trump became president in 2016. And the energy and the response is night and day, which is a testament to how he's done as a president, his last run, and how he's handled himself since."

When asked what he thinks is different this time around, Conor McGregor, who'd once famously jibed at Trump for his comments about 'Rowdy' Ronda Rousey, said:

"Lessons learned. Hard lessons learned. And a backing of his country now. I feel the people are backing him. And I'm excited to see him go do it. I hope he does, and I wish him all the best."

In 2024, McGregor spoke about possibly running for the presidential position in Ireland. During his aforementioned media scrum, when asked if he'd run for president in Ireland, the 36-year-old answered:

"We will see. We will see. We will see."

Moreover, upon being questioned about whether he was rooting for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish or the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship matchup (Jan. 20, 2025), McGregor smilingly asserted:

"Fighting Irish, baby -- Notre Dame all day. Go Irish."

Furthermore, he's consistently hinted at a political career in Ireland. McGregor and UFC CEO Dana White partook in Donald Trump's inauguration celebrations. McGregor notably met with Trump's nominee for the next U.S. Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth. The duo appeared to cordially exchange greetings.
