Conor McGregor and Stephen Thompson had a heartfelt social media interaction as the Irishman shared his thoughts on the veteran fighter's UFC 307 performance. 'Wonderboy' suffered a third-round KO defeat against rising contender Joaquin Buckley in the preliminary card headlining bout.

After returning to the athlete hotel, Thompson took to social media and thanked his fans for supporting him. McGregor replied to the post and broke down flaws in the 41-year-old's game plan:

"My brother Stephen, STAND YOUR GROUND! You are more accurate, faster, more skill, faster eye. Stand your ground and fire! Skipping back for what? What are we skipping back for? Get them hurt first then you can skip and dance around. But hurt them first. Stand and fire missiles! You have an incredible array! Stand your ground and trust yourself! Rest up, brother! Unlucky in there!"

In response, Thompson thanked McGregor for his advice:

"Like they say “you win or you learn” I always appreciate the advice of fellow martial artists. Thank you for your support!"

The Irishman showered praise on Thompson in a heartwarming post, writing:

"Rest up Stephen, you are one the greatest to ever step foot in that Octagon. With that mindset change I just know you can come back and stop people handily! Absolutely handily! Let’s say the opening bell hits there and your G.P is to stand and fire! No back foot! You are winning that in round one. After you rest, drill it in practice over and over and over and revert to me off public line, please. No back foot. I look forward! Enjoy your rest and congrats on another Octagon performance!"

At UFC 307, Thompson had his moments in the fight but Buckley mixed grappling and striking to keep 'Wonderboy' on the back foot. After a brief exchange against the cage, a thunderous overhand right from 'New Mansa' sent Thompson crashing face-fist to the mat. This was the most notable victory of Buckley's career so far.
