Conor McGregor rallies behind Danni McCormack following stunning performance at Road to UFC: "Dana White announce her signing brother"

Road to UFC was not at the forefront of the MMA world on Aug. 23 but Conor McGregor made sure to put his fighter on notice. After a big win on the show, Irish strawweight Danni McCormack got on the microphone to express her grievances with the UFC matchmakers, much to McGregor's delight.

Following a unanimous decision win over Yan Qihui on 'Road to UFC Season 3': Episode 5, McCormack said in her post-fight interview that she should already be in the UFC and would wreak havoc on the UFC strawweight division. McGregor loved everything about the callout, including her mentioning of current champion Zhang Weili:

"THIS IS A PROMO!... Finishing with a callout of the UFC's strawweight champion who is from the same region as her just beaten opponent. Magic! IRISH GOER WAR CRY! [Dana White] announce her signing brother this is magic! FORGED ARMY!"

Along with sharing a connection to Ireland, McGregor and McCormack both train at SBG Ireland. McCormack is one of several young Irish fighters who 'The Notorious' sponsored through his brands, including The Black Forge Inn and Forged Irish Stout.

Unlike most fights on the 'Road to UFC', McCormack's bout with Yan was not a part of the women's strawweight tournament. The 34-year-old called for a UFC contract after her win and is undefeated in her last four fights.

Who is Danni McCormack?

Although she is older than the traditional prospect at 34 years old, Danni McCormack proved that she is a UFC-caliber fighter with her win over Yan Qihui. Before the fight, McCormack was the reigning Invicta FC strawweight champion and previously competed for Bellator, where she had a 4-1 record in the promotion.

Before making her professional debut in 2019, McCormack had a decorated amateur career that included a second-place finish at the 2017 IMMAF World Championships. She ended her amateur career with a 6-3 record and would avenge one of those losses as a professional by defending her Invicta FC belt against Karolina Wojcik in October 2023.

McCormack was not immediately signed to the UFC after the 'Road to UFC' episode aired but it is not uncommon for the promotion to add prospects to their roster off the show, even if they do not win it traditionally. The day after McCormack's episode aired on UFC Fight Pass, Cong Wang — who fought on the same season of the show in May — knocked out Victoria Leonardo to open UFC Vegas 96.
