Irish MMA megastar Conor McGregor recently tweeted about his native country of Ireland winning gold at the 2024 European Athletics Championships in Rome, Italy. On the first day of the event, Ireland won gold in the mixed 4x400m relay.

Athletes Christopher O'Donnell, Rhasidat Adeleke, Thomas Barr, and Sharlene Mawsdsley set a championship record of 3:09:92 to win gold, beating Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Great Britain, amongst others. It's the first gold medal Ireland has won in the ongoing games - and their first since 1998.

Conor McGregor posted a video on X to congratulate his countrymen, with a caption saying:

"Impeccable Ireland!! Gold 🏆"

Perhaps this is a good premonition that gold will once again pass through Ireland - in the form of a UFC world title around McGregor's waist. He seemingly just needs to pass through Michael Chandler at UFC 303 later this month first.

Conor McGregor, Michael Chandler, UFC still silent on the future of UFC 303

It seems Conor McGregor, Michael Chandler, and the UFC are keeping their mouths shut on the official word on the future of UFC 303. The fight card is scheduled to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 29. It will be the historic return of 'The Notorious' after a three-year hiatus.

The event was put in jeopardy after the press conference was canceled without much explanation. The massive media day was supposed to happen on McGregor's home turf, Dublin, Ireland, but was canceled just days after it was announced.

McGregor addressed the cancelation on X, saying:

"In consultation with the UFC, todays press conference was cancelled due to a series of obstacles outside of our control. I apologize to my Irish fans, and fans around the world, for the inconvenience and appreciate all your passion and support. I can’t wait to put on the greatest all-time show in the octagon."

With the UFC's history of scrapping high-profile fights significantly close to the event and the bout's year-and-a-half-long delay, there are reasons why fans are getting worried. The good news is that the event is still up on the UFC's website and no official word has been put out that the main event has been cancelled.

McGregor also put fans' minds at ease by posting a series of sparring videos on Instagram, suggesting that he's well and ready to scrap come June 29.
