Dana White's Power Slap League is set to host its most notable event on June 28 with the inclusion of former UFC star Paige VanZant. Power Slap 8 will also be held in Las Vegas during International Fight Week on the night before UFC 303, bringing additional fans to its venue.

The UFC announced the signing of VanZant on June 22 during the UFC Saudi Arabia broadcast and immediately got the attention of all viewers. Shortly after, VanZant's opponent would be revealed to be Christine Wolmarans, a former MMA fighter who competed in the first-ever female slap fight in the promotion.

The addition of VanZant even gained the attention of Conor McGregor, who commented on the promotion's post of the two fighters' faceoff. 'The Notorious' had never previously addressed the league on social media.

McGregor commented on VanZant's journey to another combat sport, writing:

McGregor was originally scheduled to be in Las Vegas for International Fight Week and headline UFC 303 against Michael Chandler. A broken toe forced the Irishman out of the fight less than one month out.

VanZant and McGregor do not seem to have a close relationship despite their parallel careers but have interacted in a friendly manner multiple times on social media.

Why is Paige VanZant doing Power Slap?

Paige VanZant is highly aware that her move to Power Slap is controversial but it is one that she is certain of.

During her media day interview, VanZant said she is "absolutely" on board with the idea of Power Slap and believes it is the "ultimate test of toughness." The former UFC strawweight continued to note that she has always been intrigued by the idea and immediately accepted the opportunity when she received a call.

Once VanZant steps onto the Power Slap stage, she will have competed in four separate fight disciplines. Before entering slap-fighting, '12 Gauge' also competed for the UFC, BKFC and Misfits Boxing while also having a brief stint with AEW.
