Renowned MMA coach Din Thomas recently weighed in on Conor McGregor's return to the octagon. Asked about a potential opponent for the Dubliner's return fight, Thomas jokingly suggested the Irishman get through rehabilitation first.
On a more serious note, Thomas suggested a matchup between McGregor and Jorge Masvidal. The duo has the makings of a mega-fight.
'Dinyero' claimed that the build-up to a potential clash between 'Notorious' and 'Street Jesus' would be similar to the build-up to the Irishman's 2017 boxing clash against Floyd Mayweather.
Thomas believes that the matchup should be made just to witness the war of words between two of the smoothest trash-talkers in the history of the sport. The former UFC fighter told Andrew Whitelaw in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda MMA:

"I think Conor and Masvidal... I think Michael Chandler [as a candidate for McGregor's return fight] is great. But we need fun fights right? And I think Masvidal and Conor, the build of that would be just very similar to McGregor and Mayweather. It was a spectacle, the [McGregor-Mayweather] build-up was a spectacle. There were more people at [just] the press conferences than most fighting events have [on fight night]. And I think with the savviness of both of those individuals...how good they are at talking trash, you gotta do this fight just for the trash talk alone."

Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather, billed as the 'Money Fight', recorded the second-highest pay-per-view buys in combat sports history. The duo embarked on a four-day, three-country international press conference tour ahead of the fight that was indeed a spectacle in its own right.

Michael Chandler is seemingly confident about welcoming Conor McGregor back to the octagon
Conor McGregor hasn't lost any traction despite being out of action since UFC 264. Although he has been out of the USADA testing pool, the flak he's received regarding PED allegations hasn't been too severe.
While 'Notorious' has no lack of opponents willing to welcome him back, Michael Chandler is seemingly leading the race.
With McGregor unlikely to make another title run, even UFC president Dana White has expressed interest in a firework spectacle between the Dubliner and Chandler.
Speaking of the potential clash, 'Iron' himself claimed that things are moving in the right direction. The 36-year-old recently told MMA Junkie:
"Hopefully at T-Mobile Arena here in Vegas in July. It’s going to be huge. It’s going to be awesome, and I believe it’s going to happen. Things are moving in the right direction... Obviously Dana’s on board with it, I think the UFC’s on board with it – I do think Conor’s on board with it."
