Conor McGregor took note of Chael Sonnen's induction into the UFC Hall of Fame during 2024 International Fight Week. However, instead of congratulating the former title challenger, McGregor ridiculed 'The American Gangster' while recalling an incident between them 11 years ago.

Sonnen was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame on June 27, along with five other nominees. While he was on stage photographed with the group, McGregor took note of the 47-year-old's attire and mocked his choice of pants the same way Sonnen did to him in 2013.

McGregor tweeted:

"Look at Chael P in the tight pants hahahaa his shoes talk better than him"

The Irishman's tweet was a blunt reference to their memorable interaction in 2013 in which Sonnen mocked him for his tight pants. 'The Notorious' responded by poking fun at the former middleweight's shoes, saying they "talk better than him."

Sonnen accepted the Hall of Fame award on behalf of himself and Anderson Silva for their fight at UFC 117. The bout was inducted into the Hall of Fame under the Fight Wing, making Sonnen a member of the decorated club.

Is Conor McGregor in the UFC Hall of Fame?

Conor McGregor is indisputably the most important fighter in UFC history, but as an active member of the roster, he is not in the promotional Hall of Fame.

Once McGregor officially retires—and does not tease it—he will unquestionably receive a nomination as soon as he is eligible. McGregor could be a candidate to be inducted into either the Pioneer Wing or the Modern Wing, with solid cases for both. His iconic fight with Nate Diaz is also a contender to be voted in under the Fight Wing.

Three of McGregor's former opponents — Jose Aldo, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Donald Cerrone — have all already received bids into the Hall of Fame as previously retired fighters. Aldo is the only active UFC fighter already inducted into the Hall of Fame in the Modern Wing after coming out of retirement to face Jonathan Martinez at UFC 301.
