Prominent Saudi Arabian adviser Turki Alalshikh and boxing star Canelo Alvarez's rift has shifted in a new direction. Alalshikh recently revealed that he is no longer interested in orchestrating a fight between Terence Crawford and Alvarez.
The Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority is an influential figure behind the Riyadh Season movement and his contribution is widely recognized in breathing new vigor into the boxing community. That said, Alalshikh recently outlined his plans for the 2024-2025 season and claimed that Alvarez has been dropped from his plans.
The 43-year-old offered further clarification on what led to the decision in a lengthy post on X, writing:
"I heard what Canelo said that he respects me but doesn't like the way we do business. As for him respecting me, it doesn't matter to me if he does or not. As for the way I do business, I know why he doesn't like it, because I only target big fights at fair prices, so of course anyone who likes easy fights won't like that."

Several fans took to X to react to Alalshikh's statement, writing:
"Dude wrote a whole essay lol."
"Cook him, Your Excellency."
"Ironically you are contradicting yourself. You were trying to make Canelo vs Bud [Crawford], which would be the easiest fight for Canelo in years. Yet your argument is that he only takes easy fights. If so, Why didn’t he take your easy fight?"
"Facts! You've constantly produced high-stakes bouts while Canelo has avoided difficult opponents. The boxing industry needs more fighters like you, who put legacy over easy money. #BoxingIntegrity #BigFightsMatter"

Canelo Alvarez reacts to Turki Alalshikh disregarding potential clash against Terence Crawford
Canelo Alvarez doesn't seem too keen on chasing a potential fight against boxing star Terence Crawford. The Mexican star is scheduled to take on unbeaten Puerto Rican Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas on September 14.
Alvarez responded to Alalshikh's comments that he would "disregard" the potential clash against Crawford and focus on bigger fights in the United States market. The 34-year-old claimed that while he respects the Saudi Arabian adviser, it should be he who dictates the terms of the fight and the way they operate. According to a report by Michael Benson, Alvarez said:
"I’m not asking for that fight. I think Teofimo Lopez deserves it more than me. My response to Turki is this - yesterday they text me to talk about the Crawford fight in February and I said, ‘I’m not gonna talk about any other fight, I’m focused 100% on this [Edgar Berlanga] fight.’ I respect Turki, but if he wants to work with me, it needs to be my way.”
