Jackie Buntan came into ONE 169 last month, having prepared for what could be seen as the toughest fight that she has faced in her career.
The Muay Thai specialist has achieved some great night in ONE Championships but they don't stand up to what happened on November 8.
At Lumpinee Stadium, she collided with Anissa Meksen in an incredibly high level fight to crown in the inaugural ONE strawweight kickboxing world champion.
Buntan's first foray into kickboxing proved to be a big success and at the end of five rounds, she got her hand raised via the scorecards.

At the time, many believed that the fight was very close because both women landed fairly consistently from start to finish.
Buntan doesn't agree with this assessment for one specific reason: damage.
She told The Casuals in a recent interview that when you look at who landed the most significant shots of the fight, it was clear that she was the victor:
"The main thing with all disciplines, is that damage scores. I know it sounds like, 'Well, duh,' but it's true damage. They even tell you that damage is like the number one scoring thing. So I feel like, with this fight, I wouldn't say (it was) toe to toe. I feel like I definitely won this."

Jackie Buntan used her Muay Thai skills to her advantage
The most impressive aspect that Jackie Buntan produced at ONE 169 was her ability to seamlessly transition into kickboxing.
In fact, if anything, she was better in this fight because of her Muay Thai background.
Whilst Meksen was landing a lot of quick combinations in a very point-fighting kickboxing style, Buntan was able to break through all of that by landing the harder, more significant strikes even if there were less of them.
Her Muay Thai skillset ended up being crucial to getting the win.
