Dana White's polarizing omission of Amanda Nunes from his previous Mount Rushmore of the UFC has finally drawn an explanation from the man himself. For those unaware, Mount Rushmore is one of the United States' most iconic physical monuments: a mountain carved with the faces of four great presidents.
Over the years, the name 'Mount Rushmore' became a term applied to a figurative monument for the four greatest individuals in any given field. When asked about the Mount Rushmore of the UFC, White compiled a list of all-time greats in Jon Jones, Georges St-Pierre, Conor McGregor, and Ronda Rousey.
The inclusion of both McGregor and Ronda Rousey, the latter of whom is often ranked below Nunes, raised some eyebrows. White though, was more than willing to answer them at a Dana White's Contender Series post-fight press conference.
"Depends on what you're talking about. If you want to ask me who the greatest of the greats is, there's no doubt it's Amanda Nunes."

When asked for his reasoning behind his selection of Rousey over Nunes, White was candid and confessed to also taking the business side of things into account.
"Well, you caught me on that day when I was at ESPN and I was thinking about [it]. I think there's different ways that you could gauge the Mount Rushmore and for me, personally, that day I was talking about the business and the sport."

It is worth noting that Nunes has actually beaten Rousey in the pair's only encounter, TKO'ing her within a round. Moreover, 'The Lioness' has defeated every single woman who has held UFC gold at bantamweight and featherweight, as well as twice dispatching the great Valentina Shevchenko.
Dana White's GOAT lists have varied in the past
While Dana White included Georges St-Pierre on his latest UFC Mount Rushmore, it was not that long ago that the promotion's CEO praised Kamaru Usman as the greatest welterweight in history. The gap in accomplishments between 'GSP' and 'The Nigerian Nightmare' is fairly noticeable.
"You might not like Kamaru [Usman]. You might not like whatever it is you don't like about him, but you cannot f***ing deny he is the greatest welterweight of all time."
Check out Dana White praising Kamaru Usman (36:06):
While Usman is an all-time great with five title defenses and the third most wins in UFC welterweight title history, St-Pierre has nine title defenses, the most wins in UFC welterweight title history, and avenged every loss he has ever suffered.
