Danial Williams is back competing in striking at ONE Fight Night 8

After spending the last year establishing himself as a legitimate contender in the strawweight MMA division, Danial Williams is returning to striking contests for his next fight.

At ONE Fight Night 8, Williams was originally scheduled to face off against Rui Botelho. He will now step-in on late notice to challenge Superlek Kiatmoo9 for the flyweight kickboxing world championship.

In his return to striking, a lot has changed since he last competed in these divisions. Thanks to the Friday Fights series that ONE Championship has hosted every week inside the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Thailand, there are far more competitors in the ranks.

Whilst he admits that he hasn’t always been able to watch the events, Danial Williams has made sure to keep up with them so that he doesn’t lose track of the divisions. In a recent interview with ONE Championship, he spoke about the benefits that the series has:

“I think it's pretty cool that they're doing it every Friday because it just gives a platform for many fighters to come up. So this should just make the strawweight division a lot bigger with a lot more variety of fighters to come out of that.”

Danial Williams steps up to face Superlek Kiatmoo9 in the main event of ONE Fight Night 8

Whilst Danial Williams was keen to prove that he could compete at a high-level regardless of the martial arts discipline, he couldn’t have seen this coming.

ONE Fight Night 8 was set to be headlined by a striking superfight between the flyweight kickboxing and Muay Thai world champions, Superlek Kiatmoo9 and Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

Upon the announcement that Rodtang wouldn’t be able to compete following an injury in training, ONE Championship wasted no time in selecting his replacement.

Danial Williams has proven himself to be a fighter who is guaranteed to put on a show for the fans each and every time he steps inside the circle.

Having previously been scheduled to compete under the Muay Thai ruleset for the first time since his ONE Championship debut against Rodtang Jitmuangnon, he will now compete for the flyweight kickboxing world championship.

‘Mini T’ has been speaking recently about his desire to compete for world championships in kickboxing, Muay Thai, and MMA, and he now has the opportunity to try and claim the title from ‘The Kicking Machine’ in his first defense.

ONE Fight Night 8 is live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium on March 24. The entire event will also air live and free via Prime Video for North American viewers.
