Danial Williams says he "can hang" with Rodtang and is gunning for rematch with ‘The Iron Man’

Danial Williams plans to take out Superlek Kiatmoo9 and then go after a rematch with Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

Williams was presented with a massive opportunity only several days out from ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video. The 29-year-old was scheduled to fight Rui Botelho before Rodtang pulled out of the main event against Superlek due to an injury. As a result, ‘Mini T’ was promoted to the flyweight kickboxing world championship fight.

Before taking on Superlek, Williams reflected on his Muay Thai loss against Rodtang in April 2021. During an interview with SCMP MMA, he had this to say:

“I’m short notice, the odds were stacked against me and ever since I’ve finished that fight I know I can hang with him. I know ‘okay I wanna keep doing this, I’m gonna get him eventually.’ And my goal was to clean out the strawweight division, get those fights, build up my name, so it’s a big fight as well, and yeah this is the perfect opportunity to jump start that. Take out Superlek, then Rodtang’s next.”

Williams made his promotional debut in the Muay Thai fight against Rodtang. ‘Mini T’ lost by unanimous decision, leading to his priorities turning to MMA. He has since won three of his four bouts, with his only MMA loss coming in his last fight against Jeremy Miado. The 29-year-old now has an opportunity to bounce back by pulling off the upset at ONE Fight Night 8.

Danial Williams believes he has a "really good chance" against Superlek

Although Danial Williams deserves respect, Superlek Kiatmoo9 is the favorite in the ONE Fight Night 8 main event for a reason. The reigning flyweight kickboxing world champion made a statement against short-notice opponent Daniel Puertas to claim the vacant throne.

During an interview with ONE Championship, Williams had this to say about Superlek:

“I think Superlek is a real traditional Thai [striker]. I know what to expect from him. He has a really heavy base and power shots. But because I feel like he has a really traditional Thai style, andtit’s kickboxing rules, I think I’ve got a really, really good chance.”

Williams vs. Superlek isn’t the only world championship fight at ONE Fight Night 8. In the co-main event, Allycia Hellen Rodrigues returns to reclaim the undisputed atomweight Muay Thai world championship against atomweight title holder Janet Todd. The event can be seen live and for free by North American Prime Video subscribers.
