While nearly six years have passed since they clashed in the octagon at UFC 229, Conor McGregor has continued to target Khabib Nurmagomedov. After his latest tirade on social media, which followed Donald Trump labeling 'The Eagle' as his favorite UFC fighter, Daniel Cormier discussed the possibility of the two ending their feud.
Speaking to Ben Askren on the latest episode of Funky & The Champ, the UFC Hall of Famer, who is close with Nurmagomedov, stated:
"He just hates Khabib. He hates him... They are not letting it go. It's deep-rooted, but it's deep-rooted on both sides, honestly... [Khabib] doesn't like this guy, bro. They don't like each other. This is crazy. It really is. It's deep. It's very deep, but I think the closest thing you would get to a resolution in that is, again, Conor beating [Michael Chandler] and then earning a championship fight against Islam Makhachev, right?"
Cormier continued:

"Then Khabib could probably try to find some comfort in that and Conor could try to actually find redemption in trying to beat the guy that became the guy, right? So, there's stories there. I don't know that it happens because Michael Chandler can't seem to get a date."

McGregor has continued to target Nurmagomedov since suffering a fourth-round submission loss to him in 2018. While 'The Notorious' has attempted to lure him back into the octagon, 'The Eagle' retired from mixed martial arts in 2020 following the death of his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, and has shown no interest in returning to the sport.
What did Conor McGregor say about Khabib Nurmagomedov?
Conor McGregor caught wind of a clip of Donald Trump labeling Khabib Nurmagomedov as his favorite UFC fighter leading him to target both. 'The Notorious' took to X, stating:
"Campaign ending decision. A smelly fat mountain monkey from the inbred mountains of Dagestan is your favorite UFC (AMERICAN COMPANY) fighter? Wow. Abysmal."
McGregor later took back his previous praise of Trump, adding:
"I was actually wrong. Couple hundred million he is worth. Not multi B. I would have thought USA ONLY would be the mentality here and what I would want to see out of my president, personally. To pick a retired inbred fighter from Dagestan Russia who has three main events only to his name is astounding. Over all the American fighters that have backed him. It’s a shocking decision. He was caught on the spot. That won’t go unnoticed on the roster. This presidential race is very tight right now. More so now."
Finally, he shared a photo of his long-time rival in a tub with five teammates with the caption:
"trumps favorite fighter. here he is in a tiny tub with his fellow inbred pals in dagestan. Can you spot him? Where’s Khabib? Find Khabib. #TheyAreLookingForHim #THEYWILLFINDHIM"

As is often the case, Nurmagomedov has not responded to McGregor's latest online attack. While we often see fighters bury the hatchet after they walk away from the sport, the two rivals appear unlikely to end their feud anytime soon.
