Daniel Cormier recently shared his thoughts on a potential Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall fight and theorized that his former rival would fare better if he faced the Englishman in his light heavyweight frame.

Jones is set to face Stipe Miocic in a heavyweight title fight at UFC 309 in November after months of pushing back on Aspinall's callouts. After winning the interim heavyweight title last November, Aspinall has been relentless in his efforts to secure a title unification fight against Jones, but to no avail.

Despite the Mancunian's efforts, Jones and the promotion stood their ground on the Miocic fight, and Aspinall had to settle for a backup fighter role for the UFC 309 main event. While many have mixed predictions for a potential Jones-Aspinall bout, Cormier recently explained why Jones would do better against Aspinall at 205 pounds.

Appearing on the Pound 4 Pound podcast, Cormier pointed out that Jones has been through many wars in his career and isn't the same as he was during his prime. Outlining how his extra mass at heavyweight made him look slow against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 last March, 'DC' said:

"I think this kid [Aspinall] is as dangerous for him [Jones] as anybody he's ever been in there with, partly because that's not his weight class. I bet if he's weighing 215 [pounds], he would fight Tom Aspinall better than him weighing 245 pounds. 220? In his 205 frame, he'd fight Tom Aspinall better than he'd fight him at 250. While he didn't last long with Ciryl, he didn't look as fast. He carried more weight."

Daniel Cormier threatens to leave interview after Jon Jones is compared to NBA legend Michael Jordan

During a segment of the same podcast with Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo, Daniel Cormier threatened to walk away from the hosts if they continued to compare Jon Jones to Michael Jordan.

It's no secret that 'DC' and Jones shared one of the most heated rivalries in UFC history. Given the history between them, it's no surprise that the former two-division UFC champion didn't appreciate his old rival being compared to one of the greatest athletes in sports.

In the Pound 4 Pound podcast, Usman began outlining how Jones was like the Jordan of mixed martial arts but was cut short by Cormier, who threatened to walk off. He said:

"I thought you were about to say Michael Jordan or some crazy sh*t like that. I would be leaving, man. If you would have said that, I'd be leaving. I'm about to leave. No, he isn't... He has not left a legacy that feels like it will never be toppled. Jordan has."
