Conor McGregor has remained inactive for nearly three and a half years after breaking his leg at UFC 264 in July 2021. The former double champ appeared set to make his highly-anticipated return to the octagon against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in June, however, a broken pinky toe forced him to withdraw from the bout.

'The Notorious' recently hinted that he will participate in a boxing match against Logan Paul before making his return to mixed martial arts.

Daniel Cormier weighed in on the potential bout during a recent interview with Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie. When asked if he believes the matchup would mean the end of McGregor's run as a UFC fighter, the former double champ stated:

"No, if he goes and boxes Logan Paul, it will be an exhibition. I mean, no, I think he's going to fight in the octagon. I think he has to, though. I think he has - for Conor McGregor to - he's got to rinse some of the stench off of him from everything that's happened outside of the octagon. Where he made his home is inside of that cage and I think that at some point, he's going to have to get back there."

Cormier added that the Paul brothers will use all of McGregor's issues in his personal life over the past three years to attempt to get in his head. It remains unclear if the UFC will allow the exhibition boxing match to take place as 'The Notorious' is still under contract.

Conor McGregor previously hinted at a boxing match against Logan Paul

Despite his extended period of inactivity, Conor McGregor remains the biggest name in mixed martial arts. While many suggested that he could face Ilia Topuria in his return to combat sports, he recently shot those rumors down while expressing an interest in facing Logan Paul in a boxing match.

'The Notorious' took to X on Tuesday, posting:

"The rumors of a bout with topurio are false. I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. I have agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon."

Dana White has yet to comment on McGregor's plans. 'The Notorious' and Logan Paul are both under the TKO umbrella, however, following the UFC's recent merger with the WWE. Furthermore, the UFC CEO has done business with the elder Paul brother in the past as Prime is an official sponsor of the promotion.
