Daniel Cormier is convinced that Michael Chandler could be an appealing matchup for Conor McGregor.

Chandler fought Dustin Poirier in his most recent outing at UFC 281. Although it was apparent that Chandler had the advantage in wrestling, he chose to fight Poirier the only way he knows how – a violent striking battle.

The way Cormier sees it, Chandler's style could entice McGregor to pursue a fight with him. During a recent episode of the DC&RC show, the former two-division UFC champion said:

"He made a mistake and Dustin submitted him. But he also was willing to stand with a guy that hits hard, a guy that's predominantly a striker, and he tested himself. I think because he fights in that way, he makes a guy like McGregor go, 'Wait a minute, I want him. Because I know this guy is gonna be there to fight. This guy is gonna be there to hit and I also know that this guy will not try to wrestle me the entirety of this fight.'"

However, McGregor will be out of action for the foreseeable future. 'The Notorious' recently left the United States Anti-Doping (USADA) testing pool, meaning he'll be ineligible to fight until he's back in for at least six months.

Michael Chandler makes his case for Conor McGregor fight

Michael Chandler thinks he's the best opponent the UFC could offer Conor McGregor for when 'The Notorious' makes his eventual return to the octagon.

Chandler has never failed to deliver exciting fights – win or lose – since he got to the UFC in 2020. With that in mind, 'Iron' firmly believes there's no better matchup for the Irish mega star than himself. In an interview with ESPN MMA, Chandler said:

"I do think that’s the fight to make. When you’re talking about Conor McGregor being on the other side of this two person engagement that we have to get into, Conor’s got every opportunity on the entire planet at his disposal. Does he need to come back? Absolutely not. Does he want to come back? We don’t know. That’s up to Conor. If he does want to come back, who in the heck else do you want to be standing on the other side of the octagon than me, right now, at this juncture?"
