American grappling ace Danielle Kelly was looking to finish her opponent as a treat for the fans enjoying ONE Fight Night 7. Despite the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt winning the bout via unanimous decision, she was still a bit disappointed in herself.
Danielle Kelly was looking to get a submission victory against judo specialist 'Zombie' Ayaka Miura when they met last week in ONE Championship. In her post-fight interview, the 27-year-old athlete said:
"I kept trying to take her back. I kept attacking her neck. I'm disappointed, I really tried to submit her, but she's really strong and really good. But yeah, it was fun."
Japan's Ayaka Miura, a natural strawweight, entered this bout with a weight advantage, in addition to her judo black belt. The ONE Fight Night 7 match was a stiff test for grappling star Danielle Kelly, but she was still able to walk away with a decision win after outgrappling her opponent. Nevertheless, it seems that she truly wanted to earn it with a submission.

Kelly is currently competing in a division which has no world championship title, but she is hoping for that to change. She is aiming to be the inaugural world champion for her submission grappling weight class in ONE Championship.
Danielle Kelly wants a world title in ONE Championship
Danielle Kelly is looking to make 2023 one of the best years in Brazilian jiu-jitsu history. The Silver Fox BJJ-trained athlete is aiming to leave her mark on the annals of submission grappling.
In an interview with ONE Championship, the 27-year-old said:
“I want to win that women’s world title for 115 [pounds], for sure... If ONE would do a women’s world title, I would love to go against Jessa Khan. People think I’m dodging jiu-jitsu people, but I’ve been studying her, so I hope I get that match.”
Jessa Khan is well known in the submission grappling world as being an exceptional talent in BJJ. Kelly and Khan also have a bit of history together, having competed against each other in 2021.
Kelly and Khan may be on a collision course for a submission grappling battle sometime in 2023. Both are currently signed with ONE Championship and there could be ONE gold on the line for both soon enough.
