Danielle Kelly has never been the type of competitor to stay quiet about what she wants.

The 27-year old submission grappling star has already spoken about wanting to compete on ONE Championship’s U.S. debut event on May 5. First, though, she must get past Ayaka Miura at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video.

If she is able to defeat the former ONE women’s strawweight world title contender and add another submission win to her name inside the circle, it won’t be long before there are talks of a world championship in her future.

In a recent interview with The MMA Superfan, Danielle Kelly continued to look ahead to what may be next for her. Naming two specific opponents that she has called out for matches down the line, Kelly spoke about why she chose them in particular:

“I have called out two people. I think for one, because she’s a big name, Angela Lee. I think that match was supposed to be in the works for a while and I think just to bring women’s jiu-jitsu forward, I think that will bring way more eyes. Not because there aren’t a lot of jiu-jitsu girls, but mostly MMA girls and their jiu-jitsu backgrounds, they have more of a following or attention than most of them. I think it will just draw a lot of attention."

She continued:

"I also called out Jessa Khan. I know she’s signed to ONE, but I’ve seen her in a few tournaments. I called her out, so I don’t know what’s going on. I would like to have that match, I think I could beat her. I’m just kinda waiting. But I would like to see her compete first because I’ve been competing, just so I could study her more. But yeah, those two come to mind, and I could beat them both.”

Danielle Kelly and Miura’s bout, as well as the rest of the ONE Fight Night 7 card, is available live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.

Danielle Kelly sends condolences to Angela Lee and her family

Submission grappling star Danielle Kelly sent her condolences to Angela Lee and the rest of her family following the passing of her younger sister Victoria late last month.

Kelly and Angela Lee haven’t exactly been friends in recent times. Since Kelly’s arrival in ONE Championship, there has been constant back and forth words between the two elite grapplers as they have called each other out.

In a time of tragedy, though, rivalries are put aside. Unsurprisingly, Kelly ignored any previous tension between her and Angela Lee to mourn her fellow ONE Championship athlete.

In the same interview, Kelly said:

“I’d like to say, Angela, I’m sorry for your loss. It’s not easy. I know what it’s like to lose someone very close to you. I’ve lost both my parents. It never goes away. You have a lot of fans, you have a lot of friends and family by your side. Stay around those people, that’s what’s important. Be with your family. Everything else doesn’t matter. You have to be around people who care for you, and everything else can wait."

Danielle Kelly continued:

“You just need to be around people to keep you busy. Especially losing a sibling, I have a brother. I can’t imagine something like that happening. It always scares me, it’s probably my biggest fear because he’s all I have. I understand how she [Lee] feels. I hope her family can get through this.”
