Danielle Kelly wants on ONE Championship’s first US card in Colorado

Brazilian jiu-jitsu sensation Danielle Kelly has been making waves thus far in her brief time fighting for ONE Championship. She now wants to showcase her skills at the promotion's first event in the United States.

The organization is gearing up to make its debut on American soil with ONE on Prime Video 10 this upcoming May. The event will be headlined by the much-anticipated trilogy bout between Demetrious Johnson and Adriano Moraes.

Like many U.S.-born fighters on the roster, Danielle Kelly is yearning to get a spot on the historic card. She told ONE:

"I really hope I’m on that card, it would be really cool because it’s obviously ONE Championship’s first card in the U.S."

For now, the 27-year-old is focused on her upcoming submission grappling match with Ayaka Miura, which is scheduled to take place at ONE on Prime Video 7.

Danielle Kelly had to learn how to compete in a cage

Interestingly, the New Jersey native never grappled in a cage before debuting inside the circle last March.

Kelly spoke on the topic in an interview with ONE:

“I needed to learn how to compete in the cage, because, you know, jiu-jitsu people we’re usually used to just, kind of like, an open stage where they will either restart you or like, there’s no barrier cage to stop you so you have to keep going. That was new.”

Despite owning wins over high-level grapplers like Carla Esparza, Roxanne Modafferi, and Cynthia Calvillo, Kelly never had to compete inside a cage. Gaining this newfound experience will certainly aid Kelly as she makes the transition to MMA, which she has teased for quite some time.

The Silver Fox BJJ affiliate has been nothing short of impressive since signing with ONE Championship, picking up a submission win over Mariia Molchanova in her second appearance.

Kelly, along with fellow grapplers like the Ruotolo brothers and Mikey Musumeci, are bringing tons of positive attention to the sport of submission grappling.
