Danny Kingad thinks the flyweight MMA division is ripe for the taking following Demetrious Johnson's retirement from the sport.

More than a year removed from his iconic trilogy bout against Adriano Moraes at ONE Fight Nigth 10, 'Mighty Mouse' laid down his gloves and his gold in The Mile High City, announcing that he would be retiring from mixed martial arts after nearly two years of dominance and multiple title reigns.

With the ONE flyweight MMA world championship now vacant, 'The King' sees a big opportunity for himself and his fellow flyweight stars to swoop it and assume the throne 'DJ' has left unoccupied. Speaking in an interview with the promotion, Kingad said:

“It’s an exciting time in the flyweight division. It’s wide open. I feel blessed that I’m still close to getting there, and it gives me the motivation to beat Adriano and maybe get the chance to compete for the vacant world title."

Still gunning for his first ONE world title reign, Kingad will attempt to leap to the top of the division's top-five rankings when he meets eight-time world titleholder Adriano Moraes in a few days.

Returning to the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday, Nov. 8, Danny Kingad will square off with Adriano Moraes in a bout that could vdetermine the first fighter to challenge for the vacant flyweight crown.

By the time he steps back inside the ring, it will have been 18 months since 'Mikinho' came up short in his threequel against Demetrious Johnson in Denver. Still, Moraes is the division's top-ranked contender. With a win over the always dangerous Kingad, Moraes will take a big step toward kickstarting his ninth reign with the coveted title.

Will Moraes return to the win column and re-establish himself as one of the top dogs at flyweight, or will Danny Kingad score arguably the biggest win of his career and set the stage for another shot at 26 pounds of gold?

Fans in the United States and Canada can watch ONE 169: Malykhin vs. ‘Reug Reug’ live on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, Nov. 8 in U.S. primetime.
