Dante Leon admits that it wasn't easy to prepare for his latest outing under the ONE Championship banner.
The Canadian competitor is an experienced operator but of course, tailoring your training for specific opponents and styles is a massively important element of combat sports.
For Leon, that meant preparing to face a man that has already beaten him once in the past when they first met years before they both arrived in ONE.
Tommy Langaker is a fellow world-class submission grappler whose unique style and physique make him a difficult man to replicate.

After getting his hand raised at ONE Fight Night 27, Leon spoke about this element of his training in a post-fight interview with Nick Atkin. He compared this camp to the one he did for his ONE Championship debut where he dominantly submitted Bruno Pucci:
"I feel great. Tommy was as tough as expected, really. Super strong. He is one of those guys that has a weird game, right? Super strong, super flexible. It's always hard to prepare for that. It's always hard to bring out a training partner, or have training partners that can emulate somebody like him, whereas my last match here was like, [we] had guys in house, had a guy travel here with me who was basically the exact same as his body style and his attributes."

Dante Leon overcame a tough test at Lumpinee Stadium
Dante Leon already had first-hand experience trying to deal with some of the unique threats that Tommy Langaker brings to the table.
This time around, in their first meeting in no-gi, he was able to even things up with his Norwegian foe by winning their catchweight submission grappling contest via the scorecards.
Leon got the better of the exchanges towards the end of the 10-minute time limit, showing how he was able to adapt in the contest and make the right reads and adjustments to come away with the win.
