Sean Strickland recently put Khamzat Chimaev in his crosshairs following the announcement that the former is set to fight Dricus du Plessis again. During UFC 310 over the weekend, it was officially confirmed that we would be getting DDP versus Strickland part two with that middleweight title fight headlining UFC 312 in February.
While Strickland seemed as if he could be the likely next contender, this idea was briefly up in the air because of how dominant Khamzat Chimaev's first-round submission was over Robert Whittaker at UFC 308. Strickland and Chimaev were also previously sparring partners which has played into their recent discourse a bit, including the latter combatant sharing gym photos with the former.
In a recent tirade on his personal X page, Strickland uttered the following,
"I love how c**shot will try to talk s**t to me... Bro you're not a man, character-level f***ing dog s**t... Crypto scams, wh*red yourself out to kadyrov for cars, fled to the middle east when the pimp hand got to strong. Stay in your lane Swedish man....."

Sean Strickland and Khamzat Chimaev's history
Sean Strickland also went on to claim that Khamzat Chimaev had a tendency to train in a way that was far too stiff while working with fighters who had lower notoriety and less experience. The two clearly have a prickly relationship with each other which also came across in a social media post from Chimaev holding a gun which he sent to Strickland and asked him 'where are you?'
The 33-year-old and Chimaev have had a history of sparring with one another as previously mentioned. A Strickland interview with The Schmo from inside Xtreme Couture broadcasted this notion that Chimaev got the better of Strickland during grappling exchanges inside the gym.
The California native could be on a collision course with the Russian combatant next year depending on how things shake out with this next fight. But first, Strickland must avenge his defeat to the man who took his UFC middleweight belt, Dricus du Plessis, in the coming months.
