Former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson has revealed that he tried to fight for his right to "pay-per-view points" during his tenure in the organization.

The 36-year-old explained that he was due to renegotiate his contract following his first fight with Henry Cejudo. Johnson and Cejudo went head-to-head for the first time at UFC 197 for the flyweight title.

'Mighty Mouse' won the fight via first-round TKO after ultiizing knee strikes. With the win, he earned himself a Performance of the Night bonus.

Following the victory over Cejudo, Demetrious Johnson sat down with the UFC brass to discuss adding PPV points to his contract. 'Mighty Mouse' stated that he was only successful in doing so in one fight, his rematch with 'Triple C' at UFC 227.

During an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, Johnson said:

"I argued and I fought for pay-per-view points. That's where you start making that next wealth. Sh*t, Jon Jones hasn't fought in two or three years but he's made all that money in PPV points, so he's had the opportunity to take the time off... If I landed on a card with Conor McGregor or Jones... I could be walking out with a $2 million pay check... I got it on one fight, when I fought Henry Cejudo for the second time."

When Chael Sonnen listed Demetrious Johnson as one the greatest MMA fighters of all time

UFC Hall of Famer Chael Sonnen was recently full of praise for Demetrious Johnson as he discussed his GOATs in MMA. According to 'The American Gangster', 'Mighty Mouse' makes his top three.

Johnson's run in the UFC is one of the most impressive in the organization's history. The former flyweight champ registered a 13-fight win streak during his UFC tenure, which included a stunning 11 consecutive title defenses.

In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Sonnen explained that not only does Demetrious Johnson deserve to be mentioned alongside Georges St-Pierre and Khabib Nurmagomedov, but the fact that he's still competing at the highest level means he is worthy of being considered the best:

“You have a few GOATs out there. You got Georges St. Pierre, who is mine. Khabib [Nurmagomedov] is many of yours. Demetrious Johnson is for most people. Between all those GOATs only one of them is competing, and [ONE Championship] happens to have him.”
