Demetrious Johnson praises ONE, says relationship with Chatri Sityodtong has “always been amazing”

One of the biggest reasons for Demetrious Johnson flourishing in ONE Championship is that he was always able to see eye to eye with the man at the helm of the promotion, Chatri Sityodtong.

According to the MMA all-time great, he and the ONE Chairman and CEO have always been on the same page which, of course, nurtured their healthy work relationship.

In a recent interview with MMA Fighting, 'DJ' delved into his connection with Sityodtong throughout his stay in the world's largest martial arts organization.

“My relationship with Chatri has always been amazing. Other fighters can say differently, like they've never had a good conversation or relationship with Chatri, but each time Chatri and I ever talk, it's always been straightforward.”

Demetrious Johnson came over to ONE from the UFC back in 2018 in arguably the biggest trade in mixed martial arts history.

After some tumultuous times at the end of his career in North America, the 38-year-old legend was indeed given the merit and respect he deserves over in Asia, where he continued his trail of excellence.

While The MMA GOAT candidate walked away from the sport earlier this year, his magical run in the home of martial arts certainly cemented his legacy in the Mount Rushmore of the sport.

Demetrious Johnson says he could still compete in submission grappling

Demetrious Johnson's days as an MMA fighter may be done, but his passion for competition remains. The former flyweight MMA world champion has been scratching that itch through jiu-jitsu in the IBJJF gi scene.

In the same interview, 'DJ' said he could just as easily transition to ONE Championship's loaded submission grappling ranks if the stars align.

"I'm truly grateful for that. If I wanted to grapple in ONE Championship, I could do that sh*t. I still could do that if I really wanted to."
