ONE flyweight world champion Demetrious Johnson recently shared his two cents on the whole Dillon Danis issue.
The Bellator fighter, who hasn’t seen action since 2019, was supposed to take on YouTuber-turned-boxer KSI in a boxing match at OVO Arena Wembley in London, England, this January 14. On Thursday, news broke that Danis had pulled out of the fight entirely due to being underprepared and having weight issues, according to KSI’s manager Mams Taylor.
Much like the rest of the combat sports world, Johnson had something to say about the whole ordeal. “Mighty Mouse” questioned if the controversial Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt even had the intention of fighting KSI in the first place. In a clip uploaded to his personal YouTube channel, ‘DJ’ quipped:
“Dillon Danis, his background I don’t really know too much. He’s supposed to be a phenomenal grappler. I don’t know what his record in Bellator is, but he’s got some good skills in the ground and transitioned to mixed martial arts.”

The 36-year-old American continued:
“But the question is, was he truly unprepared to take on the Youtube star sensation, KSI?”
To truly understand if Danis had what it takes, Johnson went on to critique some of his boxing training videos. Johnson was quick to point out that Danis overextends himself on his strikes and is slow on his feet, among other things. He did praise him for his head movement but also chastised Danis for leaving himself open while throwing punches.
Johnson then offered his final verdict:
“Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t think he was ready for KSI. I think this could be a good thing that he’s not fighting KSI. If I was him, I would have just nut up and did it because he was going to make a bag. And that’s what every athlete in every sport – football, hockey, baseball, NBA, mixed martial arts, jiu-jitsu, kickboxing – we all want to make that bag.”

Demetrious Johnson reviews Andrew Tate’s boxing
In a separate video, Demetrious Johnson also shared his reaction to another controversial figure in combat sports: Andrew Tate.
The retired kickboxer turned internet personality has been in the news for all the wrong reasons as of late, following his latest brush with the law over his alleged ties with an organized crime group. Johnson intently watched as Tate figured in a sparring match. He said:
“We got the main man right now, who’s on fire Andrew Tate. Used to be a professional kickboxer, he’s going through some issues right now but I saw it and thought ‘I’m gonna break this one down.’ The first thing that came to my mind is ‘holy s*** he is huge’ so let’s watch it.”
Given Tate’s kickboxing background, Demetrious Johnson was much more impressed this time around. He added:
“Tate’s legit when it comes to kickboxing”.
