ONE flyweight world champion and MMA legend Demetrious Johnson is one of the best grapplers in the sport, ever.

It's quite surprising to realize that when he dominated world-class black belts on the ground, he wasn't even a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu himself. As of late, however, 'Mighty Mouse' is getting closer and closer to surpassing the colored belt categories and walking amongst the black belts in jiu-jitsu.

In a recent Instagram post, DJ was seen receiving his first stripe as a BJJ brown belt from professor Yan McCane. In jiu-jitsu, it takes four stripes to get to the next belt progression. Demetrious Johnson only needs three more to reach black belt.

Knowing how amazing he is already as a colored belt, DJ may very well become a BJJ world champion. It could be a new feather in his already impressive cap.

"Joy!!! I’m so grateful to get my first stripe on my brown belt today under professor @yanmccane There’s something to be said about continuing to challenge yourself. My desire to always learn and add new tools to my game is endless. I’m proud that my family and I are part of Team @grplclub 🙏🏾 #passion #jiujitsu #journey"

Demetrious Johnson wants to compete in an IBJJF tournament in the future

It looks like Demetrious Johnson will indeed expand outside MMA and venture into professional grappling.

DJ's superior grasp of technique and command of his and his opponent's anatomy are quite the sight to see. The records Johnson has set in MMA may never be broken, ever. Perhaps it's about time he ventures into new territory and becomes a beginner again.

In a podcast episode with the renowned Joe Rogan, Demetrious Johnson expressed his thoughts on his remarkable career and where he plans to head towards in the years to come.

Apparently, the MMA icon is quite interested in still embarking on competitive sports after retiring from cagefighting.

'DJ' said:

"After I’m done competing full time, with the businesses going on and see them go, I’m still gonna try and compete in something. Motocross was going to be the thing that was going to fuel my desire to compete, but after I found jiu-jitsu at the place where I train now. I’m like, ok I wanna try and compete in IBJJF."

Johnson continued:

"I was like ‘Hey guys, can I compete at IBJJF this year?’ They were like, 'No, no you can't.' It would’ve been in a gi and I’m only a brown belt, everyone was like, ‘You wanna get destroyed?’ I was like, ‘I don’t care, at least I tried’ and see what it’s like."
