ONE flyweight world champion Demetrious Johnson recently shared the key to his consistent excellence in mixed martial arts.
On May 5, ‘Mighty Mouse’ is scheduled to fight former flyweight king Adriano Moraes at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video, and if there’s a couple of things Johnson learned as a life-long martial artist, it is to trust his instincts and have a good time.
Ahead of his first defense of the ONE flyweight world title, the Washington native broke down the key to his longevity in the sport with the following reflection he released on Instagram:
“As you get older, I believe, you take care of your body, you have good nutrition, don’t do drugs. You grow with your skills and your knowledge. Now, I understand how my body works. How to apply my style of fighting towards pretty much anybody out there. 9 times out 10, I’m gonna be the smaller guy in the fight. I’ve accepted that, and I think once you accept something, it makes you even better.”

Demetrious Johnson believes Adriano Moraes will make the right adjustments ahead of their trilogy showdown
Demetrious Johnson expects nothing less than a better version of Adriano Moraes come fight night.
The longtime rivals have fought twice before in ONE Championship and are tied 1-1 in the series. The first fight took place in 2021 and was extremely close, but the Brazilian standout ended the match with a vicious knee to the head.
Their rematch, which took place last August, started off much like the first match, with both combatants pushing the pace. However, Johnson made the right adjustments and caught Moraes with a good straight right before finishing the job with a flying knee to the head.
With the trilogy match only a few weeks away, Johnson expects Moraes to correct his past mistakes and bring everything he’s got. Speaking to ONE Championship, he said:
“He’s [Moraes] gonna go back and watch the second fight and see where I was able to, you know, where I was beating him at, as you can say. And for me, I’m just gonna train. I’m just gonna go out there and try to be the best Demetrious Johnson I can be.”
