Denice Zamboanga calls out friend Stamp Fairtex after a spectacular performance in Manila

No.3-ranked atomweight contender Denice Zamboanga got back into the win column on Friday night at ONE on Prime Video 5. Kicking off the festivities, ‘The Menace’ delivered a top-notch performance against Lin Heqin.

Zamboanga earned three straight victories inside the circle between 2019 and 2020. However, she ran into a brick wall named Ham Seo Hee, dropping back-to-back fights to the South Korean veteran.

Ready to get back to her winning ways, ‘The Menace’ showed off some significantly improved striking stills. Though Heqin fought her way back into the contest late, the early dominance by Zamboanga was enough for her to leave the Mall of Asia Arena with a split-decision victory.

Following her victory, Denice Zamboanga called for a fight with the No.1-ranked atomweight contender and close friend, Stamp Fairtex. Speaking to Mitch Chilson inside the circle, ‘The Menace’ said:

“I have interest in taking the No.1 rank, which belongs to my very close friend Stamp Fairtex. If I beat her, I can challenge the champion.”

Stamp’s last appearance inside the circle was a successful one, capturing a decision win over Jihin Radzuan at ONE on Prime Video 2 in September. At ONE on Prime Video 6, Stamp will return to compete against Anissa Meksen in the promotion’s second-ever mixed rules bout on January 13, 2023.

Denice Zamboanga puts improved striking skills on display at ONE on Prime Video 5

Denice Zamboanga has put significant work into improving her striking since her last outing at ONE Championship’s 10th-anniversary showcase: ONE X, in March. Her improved stand-up served her well in a highly entertaining bout with Lin Heqin in the ONE on Prime Video 5 opener on Friday night.

Following her victory, ‘The Menace’ shared some details on the improvements she made with ONE commentator Mitch Chilson:

“For me, I’m not scared because I know that I have the advantage in striking even though they knew I would grapple, but I had the striking advantage."

With the victory, Denice Zamboanga moved to 4-2 under the ONE Championship banner and 8-2 overall. When asked about the work she has put in to improve her striking, Zamboanga said:

“We worked on striking a lot when I moved to my brother’s gym, T-Rex MMA, so I wanted that I have striking too.”
