Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal have famously gone from friends to foes over recent years. The root of their beef, according to Masvidal, is centered around Covington not paying American Top Team (ATT) striking coach Paulino Hernandez.
'Gamebred' has told the story of how 'Chaos' refused to pay Hernandez on numerous occasions, but most recently, Masvidal recounted the story on The Joe Rogan Experience.
Jorge Masvidal stated that Colby Covington had a 'gentleman's agreement' with the ATT striking coach that 'Chaos' would pay him a 5% commission on his fight purse. 'Gamebred' claimed that Covington never paid Hernandez, but he has not stated that 'Chaos' refused to pay Dan Lambert or any of the other ATT staff.

Masvidal told Joe Rogan:
"This is when we cut ties, me and [Colby]. My striking coach trained him from his amateur all the way to his Rafael dos Anjos fight. [Colby] did a handshake deal with him, 5% on your fights. If you make $500 or $500,000 this is what you're gonna pay me... As soon as Colby made money, what did he do? Didn't pay my coach."

Colby Covington denied Jorge Masvidal's accusations during an interview in March 2022. 'Chaos' mentioned Dan Lambert, the owner of the gym, and stated that his agreement with Lambert was that he paid a 5% fee to the gym but not to any other coach.
Belal Muhammad calls out Colby Covington for the title of "No.1 contender"
Leon Edwards successfully defended his welterweight title after defeating Kamaru Usman via majority decision at UFC 286 last weekend. During the post-event press conference, UFC president Dana White announced that Colby Covington would face Edwards next.
The announcement came as a shock to fans. Many believe that 'Chaos' is undeserving of a title shot and that Muhammad should be next in line.
'Remember the Name' is currently riding a four-fight win streak and is unbeaten in his last nine fights. Covington, on the other hand, is 2-2 in his last four fights and hasn't competed in over a year.
Covington appeared as the back-up fighter for Edwards vs. Usman last week, prompting Muhammad to claim that he signed a contract to fight 'Chaos' at UFC 286, which Covington turned down.
Belal Muhammad was recently interviewed by TMZ Sports, where he proposed a No.1 contender's fight with Colby Covington:
"I would love to punch Colby in the face. I would love to, let's do it. You think you're the best in the world, you think you're the No.1 contender. Come and get it from me. I'm rightfully the No.1 contender."
