Dominick Reyes is poised for a light heavyweight bout against Anthony Smith, scheduled as the featured prelim bout of the UFC 310 preliminary card on Dec. 7. The Fight Night showdown will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The former 205-pound title contender was on the brink of returning to the octagon in February to face Carlos Ulberg in early 2024. However, a health issue forced him to pull out. What may not be widely known is that Reyes grappled with a deep vein clot in his leg, a medical ailment referred to as thrombosis.

During an interview with Middle Easy in February, 'The Devastator' revealed that he first discovered the blood clot during a leg massage as part of his post-training recovery routine. Initially mistaking the pain for a muscle spasm in his calf, Reyes later realized the severity of the situation. He detailed undergoing diagnosis for the clot, which involved treatment with blood thinners and necessitated a minimum three-month hiatus from intensive exercise.

Reyes eventually returned to competition in June when he defeated Dustin Jacoby to get back in the win column. It was his first professional MMA victory since October 2020. The 34-year-old suffered three straight KO defeats after a razor-thin unanimous decision loss against Jon Jones in February 2020.

Dominick Reyes reflects on subsequent risks despite thrombosis diagnosis

During an interview with FULLSENDMMA, Dominick Reyes weighed in on the potentially life-threatening risk he confronted. 'The Devastator' expressed gratitude for being alive today, yet he admitted to feeling profoundly disheartened when doctors informed him that his chances of waking up each morning were uncertain for weeks after receiving the diagnosis:

"The thing that I was going through was that life might be over for me. It wasn't even about fighting. I was just happy to wake up every day after I got the diagnosis... He [the doctor] said, 'Okay, you're day to day for four weeks. If you way up, you're good.' It's serious, man. If you feel any pain in your legs, don't try to push it. So, for a month, I could only stand for maybe a minute most."
