Shogun Rua only managed to land 9 significant strikes against Jon Jones when the two fought at UFC 128. Jones walked away from the contest with the light-heavyweight belt around his waist; the American won via TKO in the third round of the event headliner.
Jon Jones landed a total of 102 strikes during the whole contest, 75 of which were deemed significant. The Brazilian, on the other hand, landed 11 total strikes and was largely dominated on the ground.
Jones controlled Rua for 7 minutes and 50 seconds on the ground, with the Brazilian only having 5 seconds of control time over Jones. However, Rua can look back on this fight with no shame, given that he lost to one of the greatest fighters of all time.

Rua will make his much anticipated return to the UFC against Ihor Potieria at UFC 283 next year. The pay-per-view event is scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro and is booked for January 21.
The 40-year-old has lost his last two fights in the UFC, with Ovince St. Preux and Paul Craig both getting the better of Rua. However, his latest loss against St. Preux was close, with the Brazilian only losing via split decision at UFC 274: Oliveira vs. Gaethje.
Rua's next outing is set to be his third pay-per-view event in a row. The former UFC champion remains a must-watch fighter in the organization despite his recent losses.

Who was the first fighter to beat Shogun Rua in professional MMA?
Shogun Rua is a legend in MMA and made his professional MMA debut back in 2002. The Brazilian didn't taste defeat until his fifth professional outing, when Renato Sobral submitted him in the third round at IFC 17: Global Domination.
Sobral retired from professional MMA in 2013. The now 47-year-old left the sport with a pro record of 37-12. Jacob Noe and Mikhail Zayats both beat 'Babalu' in Bellator in what were his last outings in MMA.
On the other hand, Rua remained unbeaten in his next eight fights until he met Mark Coleman in 2006. Coleman beat the Brazilian in the first round at Pride 31: Unbreakable. The 40-year-old also lost his UFC debut against Forrest Griffin via submission in 2007.
