Dillon Danis recently called out fellow GFL signee Tony Ferguson, with the challenge being issued in the comment section of an Instagram post from ESPN MMA. Unfortunately for Danis, his attempts at goading Ferguson into a fight was received poorly by MMA fans.
The post in question is a callback to moment that now lives on in MMA infamy. It was ahead of 'El Cucuy's' UFC 296 loss to Paddy Pimblett, during which UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier urged him to 'remember who he was' as a key to victory. This fell flat with the fans.
Now, in a similar manner, Danis' callout of Ferguson went poorly. He popped up in the comment section of the post, issuing a fairly respectful challenge, at least by his standards.

"We fighting next"
The pair recently signed with the GFL along with many other high-profile MMA fighters who are on the decline. Multiple fans flocked to Danis' comment, with the majority disparaging him as they often do.
In fact, one fan opined that Danis would still lose to Ferguson, despite the latter's historic losing streak and advanced age for MMA.
"You would still lose"
This sentiment was shared by another fan.
"Damn we all hope, so our boy gets back in the win column"
Others poked fun at Danis' apparent need for attention.
"Fighting to stay relevant"
But, most of the comments focused on Danis being an almost guaranteed win for Ferguson.
"Thank you for offering to snap Tony's losing streak"
A collage of fan reactions can be seen below:
The matchup hasn't been made official, but Ferguson would certainly be the biggest opponent Danis has ever faced. He's a former UFC interim lightweight champion and was, at one point, on a lengthy win streak, with names like Rafael dos Anjos and Kevin Lee on his list of conquests.
Tony Ferguson has the worst losing streak in UFC history
Years ago, Tony Ferguson was strongly linked to Khabib Nurmagomedov. They were frequently compared to each other due to their respective win streaks and dominance. Unfortunately, the end of their UFC careers could not be more different. Nurmagomedov retired undefeated. Ferguson, though, has fallen hard.
After TKO'ing Donald Cerrone, 'El Cucuy' embarked on the worst losing streak in UFC history, suffering 8 consecutive losses in increasingly one-sided fashion. This sullied a once exceptional 25-3 record to 25-11.
