Islam Makhachev solidified his status as the most decorated UFC lightweight champion with a stunning first-round submission victory over Renato Moicano at UFC 298. The fight marked Makhachev’s fourth consecutive title defense, achieved through a perfectly executed D’arce choke after sensing danger from Moicano’s aggressive early strikes.

The Brazilian challenger, stepping in on short notice, made a bold impression by landing powerful shots in the opening moments. However, Makhachev’s grappling prowess proved decisive as he swiftly took Moicano to the mat and secured the finish.

With this win, Makhachev is one fight away from tying Anderson Silva's record for most consecutive UFC victories, cementing his position as the pound-for-pound best. Former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya shared his thoughts on his YouTube channel, praising both Makhachev and Moicano:

“This [grappling] what he [Makhachev] does this what he does. He's [Makhachev] like okay enough playing around. Well good job man, he brought it I'll give it to Moicano he brought it. He showed up, some guys they would have lost... He just showed up. He's like, 'f**k it, let's go do or die.' Kill or be killed, he did it. First pay-per-view of the year lived up to it. I'm impressed. [I was] really looking forward to that Arman versus Islam fight but still shoutout to Moicano for showing up stepping up and Islam for taking the fight.”

Renato Moicano paid more than champ Islam Makhachev at UFC 311

Renato Moicano earned a bigger base purse than Islam Makhachev at UFC 311, after stepping in on just one day’s notice to face the pound-for-pound No. 1. Moicano was originally scheduled to face Beneil Dariush on the undercard but was moved to the main event when Arman Tsarukyan withdrew due to injury.

Moicano’s base purse for the event was $250,000, surpassing Makhachev’s $200,000, as per reports.

While these figures do not account for bonuses or sponsorships, Moicano’s financial reward highlights his pivotal role in salvaging the event.
