Fans have reacted to Stipe Miocic releasing his latest training video.

In November 2023, Miocic was scheduled to end a two-and-a-half-year layoff and challenge Jon Jones for his UFC heavyweight title. Unfortunately, Jones endured another extended layoff due to a torn pectoral muscle, postponing the UFC 295 main event to Nov. 16 this year.

At UFC 309, Miocic plans to silence the doubters and capture the heavyweight strap for a third time. The American's latest title reign ended in March 2021 when Francis Ngannou knocked him out in Round 2 of the UFC 260 main event.

Miocic recently took to Instagram and posted workout footage showcasing a sneak peek of his training camp. The 42-year-old added the following caption:

Miocic hasn't fought since his title loss to Ngannou. Meanwhile, Jones has also been inactive over the last few years, as he's fought once since the start of 2021 – a first-round submission against Ciryl Gane in March 2023 to claim the vacant UFC heavyweight title.

Stipe Miocic isn't favored against Jon Jones

Heading into UFC 309, Stipe Miocic isn't favored by fans despite being a former world champion. Most people are concerned that Miocic is a 42-year-old who hasn't won inside the octagon since August 2020, primarily due to inactivity.

On the contrary, Miocic not being favored is a credit to Jon Jones' success. The last time 'Bones' stepped into the octagon, he ran through Ciryl Gane with a first-round submission, proving he's still one of the best fighters on the planet.

At 37 years old, Jones has his own questions to answer after enduring an extended layoff for a severe injury. With a win against Miocic, the heavyweight king would end this prolonged chapter of his fighting career and decide whether to retire or take on interim title holder Tom Aspinall.
