Denice Zamboanga finally realized her long-sought goal of becoming a world champion last week, and fans showered her with love and props for the way she went and got it.
'The Menace' became the interim atomweight MMA world champion after she defeated fellow contender Alyona Rassohyna by TKO in the second round in their clash at ONE Fight Night 27 on Jan. 10 at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Zamboanga flexed her improved all-around game against Rassohyna, presenting varying looks that the Ukrainian had a hard time dealing with. She finished things off with a ferocious ground-and-pound in the closing seconds of the second round to become the interim atomweight MMA queen.

Apart from winning the interim atomweight belt, the victory was also the fourth straight for Zamboanga (7-2), her longest since making her ONE debut in December 2019.

Heading into ONE Fight Night 27 on Jan. 10, Denice Zamboanga made it known that she was on a mission to make the Philippines proud by becoming the latest ONE champion from the country.
It was something she delivered on with his dominant win over Alyona Rassohyna in their clash for the interim atomweight belt.
She shared this in an interview with Nick Atkin of the Bangkok Post, where she opened up about her mindset for the contest, saying:
"Yeah, I think it's time to bring back the belt to the Philippines. It's very [emotional]. I think I'm very blessed to have this opportunity to represent the Philippines and fight for the Philippines."
The win put Zamboanga's name in the record books of Philippine sports as the first Filipina MMA world champion.
