Dominick Cruz recently weighed in and shared his thoughts on whether the UFC matchmakers had any ulterior motives when scheduling him on the same card as Henry Cejudo.
The former bantamweight champions have gone back-and-forth on social media in recent months, but a fight never materialized.
'The Dominator' confirmed that he will be retiring after his bout against Rob Font but made it known that he had requested a rematch against his former foe. After claiming 'Triple C' declined the bout, Cruz was then in for a shock as they were both scheduled seperately in the UFC Seattle main and co-main events.
During his latest appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, the former UFC and WEC bantamweight king questioned the matchmakers' motives, believing they could be stirring up drama between himself and 'Triple C'.

Cruz mentioned that he felt as though that was the case after his conversation with Sean Shelby and noted that it's just part of the sport:
"I don't know. I don't think [the UFC matchmakers] care enough about me or Henry to try to annoy us to be honest...But I think that it's a good way to create turmoil, right? And this is a...drama-based sport. [Shelby] goes, 'I didn't do that on purpose.' It's hard for me to believe that, but who cares?...When I asked who was the main event, he goes, 'I don't know, we're working on it,' and then one day later it's [Cejudo vs. Song Yadong]. C'mon, man, you knew exactly what's going on."

When did Dominick Cruz and Henry Cejudo fight?
Dominick Cruz and Henry Cejudo fought each other during a truly unique time in the sport as it was the promotion's first pay-per-view during the pandemic.
Cruz replaced Jose Aldo on short notice and challenged then-champion Cejudo, who was making his first title defense. Despite nearly a four-year layoff, 'The Dominator' had some success and managed to open up a cut on 'Triple C'.
Cejudo managed to time Cruz's combinations in the second round and dropped him with a knee before landing a flurry of ground strikes en route to a second-round TKO win.
'The Dominator' expressed his disappointment with the loss as he believed it was an early stoppage.
