Ryan Garcia has fought twice since losing against Gervonta Davis, defeating Oscar Duarte (eight-round stoppage) and Devin Haney (unanimous decision turned no-contest). The latter boxing match mentioned against Haney took place in April and featured an abundance of controversy, warranting a rematch.

Garcia missed weight for the bout against Haney and later tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. The fight wasn't canceled, mostly because the drug test wasn't announced, and Garcia knocked Haney down multiple times in shocking fashion for one of the biggest upsets of the year.
