The founder of Professional Fighters League (PFL), Donn Davis announced an unprecedented change of rules for the promotion's 2025 season on Monday. Davis revealed that elbow strikes will now be allowed in the PFL. The decision marks a shift in the company's long-standing rule, which banned all sorts of elbow strikes.

This change now aligns the promotion closely with the UFC where the 12-6 elbows recently became legal. The move will also provide fighters with another tool to add to the arsenal.

Davis posted about this massive announcement on X. He wrote:

"New Year..New Adjustments. You asked for ELBOWS, @PFLMMA is giving you elbows! All elbows. All fights. All the time. #PFLMMA 2025 … COMING"

Patricio Pitbull dismissed PFL chairman's reaction to rising fighter discontent

Amidst rising discontent among fighters in the PFL, chairman Donn Davis took to X to throw some light on the situation.

PFL, which acquired Bellator in 2023, has been accused of not providing Bellator fighters with enough bouts. However, Davis claimed he and his team made every effort to provide all the Bellator fighters with at least two fights in 2024. He wrote:

"PFL has ALWAYS provided all fighters 2 fights a year. When we acquired Bellator THEY had ZERO fight events scheduled for their 210 fighters in 2024. @PFLMMA stepped in and did best we could for them in 2024. 2025 ALL fighters again 2 fights a year!"

However, this clarification was not accepted by former Bellator champion Patricio Pitbull. The Brazilian claimed that PFL was reducing the roster and imposing salary restrictions. Pitbull wrote:

"Bellator is PFL’s property; many fighters didn’t fight a single time, and many like me only fought once. You said you’d honor everyone’s contracts and give them two fights this year. You didn’t. You cut over 70% of the roster and had many renegotiate their pay."
