One of Dricus Du Plessis's former rivals recently expressed disappointment after seeing him in the fourth spot of the middleweight rankings published by a noted website. The former UFC middleweight also vented his disgust at the authorities for publishing such rankings.
Du Plessis's rival in the discussion is the former UFC middleweight, Derek Brunson, who holds an overall professional record of 23-9, and a UFC record of 20-8. Brunson holds victories over several noteworthy UFC fighters, including Kevin Holland, Lyoto Machida, and others. However, he failed to get his hand raised against Du Plessis at UFC 285, losing out via a corner's stoppage in round two.
Currently, Du Plessis also holds the UFC middleweight title. Still, the middleweight rankings of the noted MMA website, Tapology, showcased the South African in fourth place with Khamzat Chimaev, Sean Strickland, and Israel Adesanya preceding him.
Brunson refuted Du Plessis's spot on the list with an X update where he argued that the Pretoria native had already beaten the No. 2 and No. 3-ranked contenders on the list. He also mentioned that he had also been through some similar discrepancies regarding his rankings:

"Who in the hell makes these tapology rankings lol. Dricus ranked 4, when he’s the champ & beat 2 & 3. I was ranked 7 when I left the UFC, undefeated and ranked 40 with people in front of me who I beat."
Dricus du Plessis has a chance coming up to boost his place in the same rankings
The UFC brass has already announced Dricus du Plessis's next fight. The middleweight champ will lock horns with his former rival, Sean Strickland, once more at the main event of UFC 312.
Du Plessis gained a split-decision victory over Strickland in their initial encounter at UFC 297. It didn't prove enough to overtake Strickland in Tapology's rankings. However, Du Plessis might find himself above Strickland if he manages to defeat him once more in their upcoming encounter at UFC 312.
