Fans are currently expressing concern over the health and safety of former UFC fighter James Vick following his frightening KO loss to Rafael Alves at Karate Combat 47 last June.

Karate Combat president Asim Zaidi recently appeared on the Jaxxon podcast and shed light on what happened in the aftermath of Vick's scary knockout.

Zaidi described how Vick had to be put into a medically induced coma, before gaining consciousness a couple of days later. He said:

"I was there live and it was such a successful event. [the knockout] ruined my whole mood. I just couldn't be happy after that. [He was unconscious] for a couple of days. They put him in a self-induced coma. And he had a respiratory [machine] to make sure he stays breathing"[h/t MMA Mania].

A fan shared a screenshot of Zaidi's comments on Reddit, which led others to suggest Vick "needs to find another calling". One of the comments read:

"Dude has gotta stop fighting. I'm convinced he could get knocked out in a jiu-jitsu match. Really needs to find another calling".

Another user named Anonymousman382 replied, saying Vick is the latest example of ageing fighters overstaying in the sport for either a paycheck or momentary glory.

Karate Combat president Asim Zaidi doesn't want James Vick to fight again

Speaking in an interview with MMA Fighting last July, Karate Combat president Asim Zaidi provided some valuable information on James Vick's recovery after the KO. As of this writing, the former UFC fighter has regained consciousness and is in good spirits.

Upon visiting him in the hospital, Zaidi discussed the fight with Vick and what went wrong. Zaidi felt relieved to see Vick have full awareness of what happened and not showing signs of permanent damage whatsoever. Still, he admits that he doesn't want Vick fighting again in Karate Combat - or anywhere.

Zaidi said (via MMA Fighting):

"I would not like to see him [Vick] in the pit again. ... I hate to say it and don’t want to to sound heartless, but I just can’t bring him back to Karate Combat, and I don’t think he should fight again. I hate to say that because he’s a warrior. But he has a wonderful school, he coaches many, many amazing talented young fighters. I think it’s time to say, hey, that’s my path and that’s what I’m going to go on to, and he was successful, man".
