WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney has expressed his displeasure over the lack of bidding interests for the purse of his upcoming clash against Sandor Martin. The lack of engagement from top boxing promotions like Matchroon in the purse bidding hasn't gone down well with the American boxing star.
Haney took to X to speculate that he's content on taking time away from the sport. He wrote:
"I'ma take some time.. spend some of my money.. travel the world & I’ll be back in two years after Ryan's [Garcia] suspension & we can fight again."

Haney, who's coming off a loss to Ryan Garcia, is mandated to take on Martin and restricted from exploring other matchup options. The recent tweet, which suggested that he may go on a prolonged hiatus from the sport, at least until the Garcia rematch presents itself, elicited mixed reactions from fight fans. Several fans weren't entirely sold on his willingness to fight Garcia. They wrote:
"You’re not gonna fight him again. Dude stole your soul."
"Take five years, one for every time he knocked you down"
"Ryan takes an L [and] he ready to fight again. You take an L and [you] wanna travel for 2 years. If you really wanted to fight you wouldn’t want him to get suspended."
On the flip side, several fans advised Haney to reconsider the decision:
"Don't take no time off bro you in your prime keep working you a couple of fights away."

Devin Haney fires back at Alberto Puello's comments
Former WBA super lightweight titleholder Alberto Puello recently lashed out at Devin Haney, claiming that the American doesn't deserve to be the WBC 140-pound champion.
Puello claimed that he simply couldn't understand how Haney ended up retaining his title after his loss to Ryan Garcia. Even though Haney lost the fight to Garcia via majority decision, 'King Ry' was ineligible to win the fight for missing weight. Puello took to X to react to the situation, and wrote:
"I deserve to be the WBC Champion, not Devin Haney because he just received a beating by the hands of Ryan Garcia how's it possible that he still maintains the title if he doesn't want to fight Martin tell him to abandon the title and I will take care of that."
Haney fired back at the Dominican boxer, and referenced Puello's failed drug test ahead of his clash against Rolando Romero. He wrote:
"[You] deserved to be banned for cheating.."
