Colby Covington weighed in on Dustin Poirier for allegedly fumbling the opportunity to fight him.
While speaking to James Lynch of MyMMANews, Covington opened up about his layoff and noted that he has been ready and eager to fight since last summer. He mentioned that Poirier was an option, but claimed that the former interim lightweight champion turned down the fight:
"He talked all that sh*t, 'Oh, I'm gonna come up to 170, I wanna fight Colby, I'm gonna do this.' You know, he said on Twitter, 'It's on site,' all these things. He even went on Twitter, 'I accept.' Dude, he never accepted. The UFC gave him the fight, you know, the biggest money fight that he was gonna get besides obviously Conor [McGregor] and he fumbled it." [12:45 - 13:01]
'Chaos' then had strong words for his former American Top Team teammate and claimed that he's afraid to fight him in the octagon. He mentioned that he accomplished his goal as he believes he exposed 'The Diamond,' saying:

"At least I exposed him. The biggest thing...I just wanted to expose Dustin. He walks around like he's a gangster, he'll fight anybody, this and that, I just wanted to expose him for the b**** that he is and no, he doesn't really take every fight. The guy picks and chooses his fights." [13:09 - 13:23]
It will be interesting to see whether Poirier were to move up to 170lbs should Covington defeat Leon Edwards for the welterweight championship.

Colby Covington rules out a move down to lightweight
Colby Covington has remained steadfast against moving down to 155lbs due to a difficult weight cut and because he prefers to compete closer to his natural weight.
During the affromentioned interview, 'Chaos' shared his thoughts on cutting the extra weight to make the lightweight limit and noted that he doesn't believe it's necessary. He referred to fighters like Khamzat Chimaev, who cut drastic amounts of weight, as being weight bullies, saying:
" I'm not a weight bully, James, and that's the whole thing with these guys that are weight bullies like Khamzat, he's a weight bully, he's looking for cut 40-50lbs. Yeah, if I cut 40-50lbs, yeah I'll be fighting you know, Henry Cejudo and Aljamain Sterling, but you know, I'm not a weight bully, I don't need to do that." [22:10 - 22:24]
Despite ruling out a move to lightweight, the former UFC welterweight title challenger remains open to the idea of moving up to middleweight in the future.
