Dustin Poirier recently weighed in on the possibility of Conor McGregor making his return to the octagon with a showdown against Dan Hooker. At a BKFC event in Spain last week, 'The Notorious' hinted that his next fight could be against Hooker on Feb. 1 in Saudi Arabia.

Following McGregor’s announcement, 'The Hangman' eagerly expressed his desire to take the fight, hoping the UFC would bring the matchup to fruition. However, in an interview, Hooker revealed he won’t be available to compete in February as he’ll be prioritizing the birth of his second child. Instead, he proposed January or March as more suitable dates for the potential bout.

During a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Poirier was asked for his thoughts on the potential matchup between McGregor and Hooker. 'The Diamond', who has previously defeated both fighters, remarked that it would be an exciting contest:

"That's a fun fight, man. Either guy. I think whoever lands the biggest, clean shot first wins."

Poirier triumphed over Hooker in a thrilling back-and-forth battle, winning by unanimous decision at a Fight Night event in June 2020. Following that victory, the former UFC interim lightweight champion notched consecutive wins against McGregor, first at UFC 257 and then again at UFC 264 in 2021.

Dustin Poirier calls for farewell fight in Louisiana

Dustin Poirier fell short in his second and likely final attempt to secure the undisputed lightweight title, succumbing to a fifth-round submission by reigning champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 302 in June.

Following the loss, 'The Diamond' suggested that he is considering retirement, having fluctuated in his thoughts about whether he intends to continue his MMA career.

In the same interview with Ariel Helwani, Poirier revealed that he intends to fight at least one more time before officially retiring and expressed his desire for his final bout to take place in his home state of Louisiana:

"I will fight again. It's just how things unfold; we'll see when I do retire. It could be uno mas, it could be dos mas. I had a good meeting at the UFC headquarters... My goal is to get a fight or an event here in Louisiana, whether that's Lafayette, Louisiana, or New Orleans. I want to lay the gloves down where I started fighting. That's my goal."
